The Skype name is unique and does the job of a username or ID. Indeed, Skype has a separate parameter called Name. What Skype calls the Skype name should actually have been called Skype ID or Skype username. To be honest, things are confusing in Skype. It is usually in the form of live: xxxxxx, where xxxxxx is their pseudonym or unique username. People call it Skype ID or Skype live ID because it is used to add contacts on Skype and also, because of the text “live” before the unique username. If you look in the Skype settings, it’s called the name Skype moniker. And that username is called Skype ID or Skype live ID. Microsoft will automatically assign the user name to you.
